Your Guide to Easter Weekend at Grey Hawk!
The Great Egg Hunt Festival on Sunday, April 20 will run from 10:00am – 4:00pm. We’ll have food, drinks, gift/craft vendors, free kids’ crafts, lawn games, a fun photo backdrop so you can take pictures (BYO phone/camera!) and more available all day long.
Here's a quick orientation with what you need to know about Grey Hawk Bar & Gardens’ GREAT EGG HUNT FESTIVAL and this weekend overall:
Schedule & Timing:
The Great Egg Hunt Festival on Sunday, April 20 will run from 10:00am – 4:00pm. We’ll have food, drinks, gift/craft vendors, free kids’ crafts, lawn games, a fun photo backdrop so you can take pictures (BYO phone/camera!) and more available all day long.
There is no admission fee or cost to attend, or to participate in activities like the egg hunt, craft stations, photo station, etc. Of course, food and drinks will be available for purchase, and the craft vendors have some amazing items for sale as well.
We’ll have picnic-style festival food (think: food truck vibes) available to order from an order counter on the Grey Hawk deck. There will be a selection of delicious, hand-made baguette sandwiches and sides, fashioned so that we can keep up with the demand of what we expect will be a busy day. We’ve also got some great drinks – themed cocktails, beer, wine, sodas/juices, and more. You’ll order everything from this counter, receive a number, and your order will be delivered to you. We ask that you linger in the gravel courtyard so we can find you! Check out the menu here.
For all of your coffee and espresso and tea needs, The Hatchling Coffee House will be open 8:00am until 4:00pm. We will take ALL orders for coffees and pastries exclusively at the coffee house as usual.
There will be live music by Owen Walsh from 11:00am – 2:00pm. Owen is a fantastic musician and will provide a relaxing acoustic musical environment to help us all enjoy a lovely day.
The main event is, of course, the EGG HUNT, for kids of all ages! We’ll kick this off at 1:00pm sharp with a short speech and logistics delivered from the stage. If you have one, please bring a basket or bucket so your young people can scoop up the eggs! There will be prizes for the most eggs collected and a few other very cute categories.
There will be a raffle for a loaded Easter Basket to benefit Lil’s Thrift Shop, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) dedicated to animal welfare and abuse prevention programs in Rutherford County. We’ll draw the raffle at 4:00pm and contact the winner by phone for pickup.
Notes on Logistics:
We expect this to be a well-attended event, especially in the 12:30-1:30pm hours. Consider coming on the earlier side! Grey Hawk is a lovely place to hang out for a few hours.
If you’re planning on participating in the 1:00pm EGG HUNT please be sure to give yourself plenty of time to find parking, get your family set up, etc. We don’t want to see any tears on Easter!
Please be mindful when it comes to parking and consider carpooling – please follow directions from our greeter/parking attendant, don’t park anyone in, etc. We want this to be fun and delightful for everyone.
There will not be table service at this event – you’ll place an order at a counter, help yourself to water, silverware, and napkins, and find a space around the property that works for y’all. We’ve got small tables, big tables, picnic tables, and more – please be mindful, and share if need be! We also strongly encourage folks to consider a picnic blanket set-up on our lawn. We’ll have some blankets, but please consider bringing your own, too!
Need support during the festival? Find a Grey Hawk staff member wearing sparkly bunny ears and they’ll point you in the right direction!
Vendors:
There will be some great gifts, goods, and crafts for purchase at The Great Egg Hunt Festival. Special thanks to these local vendors for participating:

LAKE LURE, NC – Grey Hawk Bar & Gardens – a restaurant, bar, and event space in Lake Lure, North Carolina – will host its Grand Re-Opening throughout the entire weekend of March 28-30, 2025, marking the start of an exciting season. The Grand Reopening shifts the restaurant into a new phase for the spring and summer, including a full schedule of live music, expanded hours, and an innovative menu revamp. Here’s a preview of what to expect:
Extended Hours: Hours at Grey Hawk Bar & Gardens will expand to include Fridays, Saturday evenings, and Sunday afternoons. The restaurant and bar will be open Fridays 12-9pm, Saturdays 10am-9pm, and Sundays 10am-4pm.
Live Music: Starting March 28, local musicians will perform every day of the weekend, on Fridays from 5:30-8:30, Saturdays from 5:30-8:30, and Sundays from 11-2.
Expanded Food and Drink Offerings: From a full lineup of premium frozen cocktails and mocktails to fresh new food items, the Grey Hawk dining offerings will be more extensive than ever.
Reimagined Interior Design: The Grey Hawk building now boasts a fully cohesive interior design, with a brand new custom bar made in-house with reclaimed local wood slabs and floral patterns everywhere you look. In the month ahead an outdoor awning will be constructed to extend rainy day seating availability.
A Full Lineup of Festivals: Almost every month of 2025 features a special festival event planned – from a property-wide Easter Egg hunt to a June Pride Festival to two new music festivals in May and September. These will be special events that bring the community together, with local craft vendors, artists, and fun for all ages.
New Event Offerings: Grey Hawk will build on its successful special event series with new additions, including a twice-monthly outdoor yoga class on Saturday mornings; line-dancing nights starting in the summer; innovative wine-tasting, -pairing, and -purchasing events; and Bonfire Nights, which make use of a forested area in the back of the property.
On-Site Vegetable & Edible Flower Garden: Unique radial raised beds allow for lots of plant growth, including tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, edible flowers, herbs, and more, perfect for strolling through with a cocktail or coffee.
A Beautiful Outdoor Oasis: The Grey Hawk property includes an extensive lawn, a creek with a small waterfall, a huge, hand-poured fountain, and beautiful landscaping with local and rare plants. Guests can enjoy the gardens, picnic on the lawn, and play newly-available family lawn games like cornhole and ladder ball.
Expanded Coffeehouse Offerings: The Hatchling Coffeehouse by Grey Hawk, an espresso bar and lounge located right next door at 102 Resort Lane, will now be open seven days of the week, from 8am-3pm Sundays through Thursdays and 8am-8pm Fridays and Saturdays. The coffee house will feature a new selection of grab-and-go food and snack items, plants and gifts for purchase, a Bottle Shop with accessible wine offerings, and more.
March 28 will be the first time that the business is restored to full capacity and programming in six months, ever since Hurricane Helene caused severe and heart-breaking destruction across Western North Carolina, devastating neighborhoods and resulting in loss of life and widespread loss of livelihood. The Grey Hawk property was mercifully not substantially damaged during the storm, although the region’s recovery process – including the rebuilding of nearby Chimney Rock Village, the long-term repair of a major travel artery connecting Lake Lure to Asheville, and the restoration of the lake itself – has led to logistical challenges and uncertainty about tourism prospects for 2025.
Grey Hawk Bar & Gardens is owned and operated by George Carter and Adam Polaski, who purchased the property one week before Hurricane Helene.
George Carter, co-owner of Grey Hawk Bar & Gardens, said:
“We are so thrilled to welcome the community back to Grey Hawk and back to Lake Lure after what has been a chaotic and unsettling time. Our team has poured our hearts into Grey Hawk, dreaming up exciting events and innovative food and drink options, and we can’t wait to share them. Even as we face a season where the public will be unable to use the lake itself, we are honored that Grey Hawk is becoming a destination in its own right and can be one element in Lake Lure’s recovery process.”
Adam Polaski, co-owner of Grey Hawk Bar & Gardens, said:
“We’ve heard loud and clear from community members that they are eager for a way to recapture the peace that Hurricane Helene stole from so many across our region. On the Grey Hawk team, we believe that coming together over delicious food, hand-crafted drinks, and awesome music in a relaxing environment can be very healing – and a lot of fun. That’s the spirit we’re bringing with us this spring and summer, and we are humbled and grateful to be here to entertain, serve, and delight.”
Grey Hawk Bar & Gardens is proud and grateful to be a recipient of a grant from the Western North Carolina Small Business Initiative, supported by Dogwood Health Trust and Appalachian Community Capital (ACC) in partnership with Community Reinvestment Fund (CRF).

There’s no easy way to say it – the past month, since Hurricane Helene caused so much devastation all across Western NC, has been horrible. Across our region and especially here in Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, lives and livelihoods have been lost, homes and businesses have been severely damaged, and we are all grappling with shock, grief, sadness, anger, and more.
We know this is a very, very challenging time – and we are sending so much love, support, and solidarity to our friends, colleagues and neighbors.

Grand Opening Thursday: Grey Hawk Bar & Gardens, New Wine and Cocktail Bar in Lake Lure, NC
Wine and cocktail bar, featuring beautiful outdoor space in the heart of Lake Lure, marks the start of Opening Weekend on August 31 with an event featuring live entertainment.
LAKE LURE, NC – This week marks the opening of Grey Hawk Bar & Gardens, a new wine & cocktail bar and entertainment venue in the heart of Lake Lure, NC. With a menu featuring fun, shareable culinary boards; garden-fresh soups and salads; and an extensive cocktail, beer, and wine list; Grey Hawk Bar & Gardens is poised to delight local residents and the many tourists who seek out Lake Lure as a favorite leisure destination.
Grey Hawk Bar & Gardens will open its doors for the first time on August 31 from 5:30-10pm at 111 Resort Lane, Lake Lure, NC 28746. The Grand Opening event will feature live entertainment – including local band Broad River Jam, musical duo Jeff Baker & Brandon Townsend; and a belly dance performance from Emily June. Press should RSVP at info@greyhawklakelure.com.
The venue is the latest project from George Carter and Byron Greiner, colleagues at Dwell Realty Group. In June 2023 Carter and Greiner opened Dwell Realty Group at Lake Lure, an expansion of the successful downtown Asheville real estate firm. The realty office – adjacent to the new wine and cocktail bar – has marked a revitalization of Willowbrook Properties, which operated as a campground in the 1970s. Grey Hawk Bar & Gardens features an extensive property overhaul and remodel – including 1,000 new plants, hundreds of reclaimed limestone bricks donated by the Lake Lure Inn & Spa, and a brand new hand-made fountain designed and poured by Carter and his team.
George Carter, Founding Partner of Grey Hawk Bar & Gardens, said today:
“I love living in Lake Lure, and I’m so grateful for this opportunity to create a gathering place where the community can get to know each other and share memories over food and drink. I was once told that luxury is nothing more than a feeling – and my goal with Grey Hawk is to use the skills and lessons I’ve learned over two decades in the service industry to invite everyone to experience that feeling of luxury. It’s been an honor to build something brand new – from the ground up – and I can’t wait to share it.”
Carter has more than 20 years of experience in hospitality and food service, including private estate management, restaurant operations, and business redevelopment consulting. Grey Hawk Bar & Gardens is his first from-scratch restaurant venture. He makes his home in Lake Lure and over the past five years has helped countless residents plant their roots in the area through his work as a real estate broker.
Byron Greiner spent 25 years in the food brokerage business as a former Senior Vice President of Advantage Sales & Marketing, one of the largest food brokers in the county. He is a former Downtown Asheville restaurant owner and splits his time between Lake Lure and the Beaverdam community in Asheville. Byron has been active in many non-profits, such as the Grove Arcade Foundation and is the former president of the Grove Arcade Merchants Association. In addition, Byron has been a member of the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Asheville Downtown Association, and he co-founded the Asheville Independent Restaurant Association in 2003.
The project was also made possible by the generosity and diligence of George & Hope Wittmer, Tiffany Holland, Richard Bickel, Tabitha Young, Adam Polaski, and Tamera & Tom Ownby – as well as dozens of friends and family who have volunteered their time ahead of launch.
